Hydrotherapy as a training routine
Published on Monday, 2 November 2026

Not only after an injury: walking in water as regular training for the sporting dog, the sedentary dog or the senior.
Hydrotherapy is not reserved for dogs that have had surgery. Walking in water is also complete training for a healthy dog: endurance and muscle building, with no impact on the joints.
Which dogs
- The sporting dog: pre-season preparation, maintenance between events, return to activity after a break.
- The sedentary dog that lacks exercise and needs to start again gently.
- The senior slowing down: maintaining muscle mass and suppleness without tiring the joints.
- The overweight dog, alongside the diet plan set by your vet.
How it is built
Everything starts with a first session with assessment: locomotor examination, baseline measurements, check for contraindications. The veterinarian then sets a programme suited to age, condition and goal. The rhythm is decided together and reassessed over the sessions according to what the dog shows.
What we measure
At each assessment, muscle mass is measured with a tape and joint range of motion is checked: the programme relies on measurements, not on an impression.
Subscriptions
For a routine, subscriptions of 6, 10 or 20 sessions are available; they are paid at the first visit, during which the plan is established.
